As a Financial Writer at PitchBook, I contributed content across various topics in both private and public markets to the daily newsletter. This included longer-form articles, briefs, and extended briefs. The daily newsletter served as PitchBook’s primary news product, delivering updates on Venture Capital, Private Equity, and Mergers and Acquisitions. Each of these segments had its own dedicated newsletter, allowing subscribers to tailor their news consumption.
Following the departure of my mentor, Adam Putz, I assumed the role of head writer for the M&A newsletter, in addition to contributing roughly half of the content for the Private Equity newsletter.
For a collection of some of my longer work in the PE and M&A newsletters, check out my author page on PitchBook.
Briefs and extended briefs made up the bulk of the daily newsletter’s content. Sourcing and writing this content was one of my primary responsibilities, which freed up senior writers to focus on long-form top-shelf daily content. For an example of what an extended brief I wrote looks like, take a look here or here. For an example of some briefs I did, check here and here.
On a typical day, my responsibilities ranged from producing one to two extended briefs and two to eight briefs, and sometimes a longer-form article depending on the volume of news and available resources.
Each morning, I would come in and source all the content for the M&A newsletter as well as most of the content for the Private Equity newsletter. I would then work on writing breaking long-form content that needed to be sent to editors as soon as possible so they had enough time to prepare before the end of the day. During the time editors worked on long-form content, writers would tackle extended briefs and briefs. After all the content had been sent to the editors, I would then focus on researching and writing non-breaking long-form content, or, if the editors were particularly swamped on a certain day or people were out, I would give another set of eyes for briefs and extended briefs from the other writers.
